Trump Says Ukraine-Russia Talks ‘On Track’ Following Call with Zelenskyy

U.S. President Donald Trump described his Wednesday call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “very good,” as the U.S. continues efforts to broker a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said much of the hourlong conversation focused on topics previously discussed during his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin a day earlier. The goal, he stated, was to align both nations on their respective “requests and needs.”

“We are very much on track,” Trump wrote, adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz would soon provide an “accurate description of the points discussed.”

The call came amid uncertainty surrounding a ceasefire approved by Putin on Tuesday, which already appeared fragile. Moscow and Kyiv had seemingly reached a breakthrough following Trump’s call with Putin, who agreed to a U.S.-negotiated ceasefire on specific targets. Although the temporary truce was narrower than what Trump had initially discussed with Zelenskyy, it marked a step toward reducing the ongoing conflict that has ravaged Ukraine for more than three years.

“We agreed to an immediate ceasefire on all energy and infrastructure,” Trump wrote after his conversation with Putin, emphasizing that the deal served as a precursor to broader negotiations for a permanent ceasefire set to take place in the Middle East.

Despite this, hostilities continued within hours of the agreement. The Kremlin accused Ukraine of launching a drone attack on an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region, according to a Google-translated update from the Russian Ministry of Defense. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed Kyiv had not reciprocated Moscow’s commitment to the 30-day truce, which was limited to energy facilities.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported continued Russian strikes. Authorities in Sumy said local hospital buildings were damaged in “massive air attacks” by Russian drones, according to a Google-translated Telegram update. Additionally, Kyiv reported significant destruction, with 18 residences, 20 townhouse apartments, and 19 vehicles impacted in an overnight assault.

Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, urging continued international pressure on Russia. “Such night attacks destroy our energy, our infrastructure, and the normal life of Ukrainians. The fact that this night was no exception shows that we must keep pressuring Russia for the sake of peace,” he stated in a translated social media post.
