"Earthquakes Strike Myanmar and Bangkok, Leaving Over 150 Dead and Hundreds Injured"
Myanmar Earthquake LIVE Updates: The USGS reports that the earthquake's epicenter was located 16 km from Sagaing, approximately 250 km from Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw.

Over 150 people have lost their lives, and hundreds have been injured after a series of six earthquakes, the strongest measuring 7.7 magnitude, struck near Sagaing in central Myanmar at 12:50 PM (local time) on Friday, according to state-run broadcaster MRTV.
The casualties include victims from a hospital in the capital, Naypyidaw—now feared to become a "mass casualty area," as per doctors speaking to AFP. Additionally, a mosque in Mandalay collapsed during prayers, and a university building in the city caught fire, further contributing to the devastation.
Myanmar's junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, has warned that the death toll is expected to rise. Declaring a state of emergency, he has appealed for international aid, urging "any country and any organization" to provide assistance.
The tremors were felt as far as northern Thailand, where metro and rail services were briefly suspended in Bangkok. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra cut short an official visit to Phuket to convene an emergency meeting, after which she also declared a state of emergency in the capital.
Eight deaths have been confirmed in Thailand so far.
China's Yunnan province experienced strong tremors, with the China Earthquake Networks Center reporting a magnitude of 7.9. Mild tremors were also felt in Kolkata, West Bengal, and parts of Manipur, where a 4.4-magnitude quake was recorded. Shocks were reported in Dhaka and Chattogram, Bangladesh, as well.
Tremors and aftershocks were also experienced in Vietnam and Bangladesh.
No fatalities have been reported from China or other affected regions at this time.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is prepared to provide any necessary assistance. "Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone," he posted on X, adding that he has instructed authorities to remain on standby.
Leaders from European nations have also extended offers of support.
Shocking Footage of Bangkok Tremors
Dramatic videos shared on X captured buildings swaying in Bangkok and other cities, sending residents fleeing into the streets in fear. "I heard it... I was sleeping and ran out of the building in my pyjamas as fast as I could," said Duangjai, a resident of Chiang Mai, a popular tourist destination, in an interview with AFP.
